KIAMBU: Investigators in Kiambu County are currently piecing together the final moments of a 61-year-old patient who died after a fatal fall at the Gatundu Level V Hospital.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, has raised questions about patient safety and supervision within the facility’s emergency wing.
The deceased, identified as Vincent Mburu, had been admitted to the hospital since March 30.
According to police reports, Mburu was undergoing treatment for alcohol withdrawal syndrome at the time of the tragedy.
Preliminary investigations suggest that at approximately 1:15am, he fell from a third-floor landing, landing on a concrete pavement below.
The impact was instantaneous and fatal, with authorities noting injuries that included a broken neck.
Police officers who visited the scene believe Mburu may have been attempting to leave the hospital premises when the fall occurred.
While the specific circumstances leading to the plunge remain undisclosed, the case points out the complex challenges of managing patients suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms, which can often include disorientation or agitation.
His body has been moved to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination as the official investigation continues.
