Police arrest a man suspected to have killed wife in Mwihoko, Kiambu

Githurai detectives have arrested a 59-year-old man who had been on the run after allegedly stabbing his wife to death in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.

The suspect, Charles Maina Karungae Kibue, was apprehended by police at a hideout in Kayole following a brief manhunt fueled by forensic tracking.

According to a police report filed at the Mwihoko Police Station, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 14, 2026. A domestic dispute broke out at a shop owned by the victim, 47-year-old Elizabeth Wambui, in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township.

During the altercation, Kibue allegedly stabbed Wambui in the right side of the chest with a spearhead before fleeing the scene.

Responding officers found Wambui bleeding profusely. Although she was rushed to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Her body is currently preserved at the Kenyatta University Funeral Home pending a postmortem.

Crime scene investigators recovered the bloodstained spearhead at the shop, which has been logged into evidence as the murder weapon. The suspect remains in police custody ahead of his arraignment.
