Kisumu Assembly Complex nears completion as Governor Nyong’o projects September opening

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o conducted site inspection of the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern County Assembly Complex in Milimani, adjacent to the Tom Mboya Labour College.

The inspection tour revealed substantial structural progress on the new multi-million legislative headquarters, which is poised to redefine the city’s administrative architecture.

“I am pleased to note that the project is now 80 percent complete and remains firmly on course for full structural handover by September,” Governor Nyong’o stated following the tour.

“We are planning for the official opening ceremony to take place before the end of September 2026.”

The flagship project is budgeted at Sh524 million, a financial capping that authorities note falls strictly within the infrastructure spending thresholds set by the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).

To date, the county government has already invested Sh320 million into the active construction phases.

Once fully commissioned, the sprawling complex will replace the city’s current cramped, colonial-era debating chambers.

The new facility will house an expansive modern debating chamber alongside specialized executive suites and offices for the Speaker, the Clerk, the Leader of the Majority Party, and Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), as well as general administrative secretariat staff.

Beyond the core legislative rooms, the state-of-the-art building will feature integrated public and welfare amenities.

These include a restaurant with a 100-guest seating capacity, a 300-seat multi-purpose hall for public participation forums, a dedicated health and wellness club, an independent standby powerhouse to guarantee uninterrupted sessions, and expansive parking bays designed to accommodate both VIPs and members of the public.

The completion of the ultra-modern complex marks a historic milestone in cementing the institutional autonomy of the legislative arm of the Kisumu County Government.

By creating a modern, secure, and highly efficient working environment, the facility aims to enhance service delivery and legislative output for the residents of Kisumu.
