The buck stops with the area MP: aspiring lawmaker, Philip Miyawa condemns violent murder at Nyando public event

BY GEOFREY KASERA: Philip Miyawa, a journalist and an aspirant for the Nyando Parliamentary seat, has condemned the brutal murder of Evan Ouma Otieno 32, who was stabbed to death today during a food and bursary distribution event led by the sitting area MP, Hon. Jared Okello, at Hongo Ogosa Primary School.

According to police reports the incident occurred around 400 meters from the school, where a fight among youths turned fatal.

Otieno succumbed to multiple stab wounds on the head, chest, and buttocks.

“The buck stops with the area MP. He presided over an event that descended into chaos and bloodshed under his watch. His failure to provide adequate security or exercise leadership to de-escalate the situation directly contributed to the loss of a young life. This is not leadership; it is negligence,” said Miyawa in a statement to the newsrooms.

Miyawa demands that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nyando conduct a swift and thorough investigation, not just into the killers, but into the environment of lawlessness that the incumbent has cultivated ahead of the 2027 elections.

His irreducible minimums include; immediate apprehension and prosecution of the individuals directly responsible for the fatal attack, a comprehensive probe into the rising political tensions and security gaps surrounding public gatherings in Nyando, and stringent safety protocols and adequate police oversight for all constituency events to protect vulnerable citizens.

Miyawa extended his sincere condolences to the family of Evan Ouma Otieno while emphasizing that such tragedy must mark a turning point for the constituency:

“To the family of Evan Ouma Otieno, I offer my sincere condolences. Your son’s blood must not be in vain. Nyando deserves a leader who brings peace, not chaos.”
