WAMUNYORO: Politics truly makes strange bedfellows.

Just weeks after publicly dressing down Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata over the Ol Kalou by-election campaigns, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warmly welcomed the governor into his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).

The sudden reconciliation was sealed at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence on Friday, where a beaming Gachagua referred to Kang’ata as his “younger brother” and celebrated his departure from the ruling UDA party.

The turn of events caught many political observers off guard.

During the heated Ol Kalou campaigns, Gachagua warned Kang’ata to “keep off” local affairs, dismissing his alliance with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement.

However, with the Ol Kalou victory now secured and Kang’ata officially leaving UDA, the two leaders have swiftly buried the hatchet.

By welcoming Kang’ata, Gachagua not only expands DCP’s footprint with its first governor but also demonstrates his willingness to rally regional leaders under one banner as opposition to the ruling party grows.
