Kenyan TikTok creators are receiving in-app system notifications instructing them to submit localized tax information “as soon as possible” to comply with the country’s tax regulations.
The alert, issued under the app’s System Notifications tab, features a direct “Go to tax form” button.
TikTok stated that collecting these details is necessary to verify creator tax liabilities and fulfill its statutory payment obligations across all current and future monetization schemes.
The required tax form asks creators to provide their full name, email address, physical address, country of residence, and tax residency status as either a resident or non-resident of Kenya.
While the notification does not specify a hard deadline, TikTok has urged creators to complete the exercise promptly to ensure uninterrupted account payouts.
This move reflects a broader industry trend, as global digital platforms increasingly adjust their payout mechanisms to align with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax compliance frameworks.
Similarly, Google announced that it will begin withholding a 5% tax on applicable YouTube earnings for Kenya-based accounts, starting with September 2026 earnings disbursed in October.
YouTube creators in Kenya must submit their Kenyan Personal Identification Number (PIN) via AdSense for YouTube by October 1, 2026, or risk having their payments held.
Google noted that submitted tax details require three to five business days for review and confirmed it will submit monthly reports to the KRA detailing gross earnings, total amounts withheld, creator addresses, and PINs.
