Man arrested over mob Killing in Trans Nzoia; Diani land fraud suspect freed on bond

Detectives in Trans Nzoia County have arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with the death of a 35-year-old man with a mental disability, who was beaten by a mob after being mistaken for a thief.

The victim, Dennis Imboha, had reportedly wandered away from his home in Milimani Location, Kiminini Sub-County, and ended up at a neighbouring homestead.

Residents there assumed he was a thief and attacked him.

He suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken to Kijana Wamalwa Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.

Detectives visited the scene to collect evidence, and his body was moved to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem.

In an intelligence-led operation in Milimani Location, they arrested Joseph Apollo, 54, who is being processed ahead of arraignment. Investigators say they are following more leads and want everyone involved in the attack to face justice.

Elsewhere, a land fraud case in Diani, Kwale County, has reached court.

Detectives from the DCI’s Land Fraud Investigations Unit arrested George Nyambati Mochache over alleged fraudulent dealings in a roughly three-hectare parcel valued at about Sh45 million.

The complainant bought the land in 1991.

Trouble began in April 2023, when the complainant learned that a third party had allegedly entered the property, subdivided it with beacons, started clearing it and advertised portions for sale.

After investigations, the case file went to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which directed that the suspect be charged with conspiracy to defraud.

Mochache was arrested at DCI Headquarters on October 2, 2026, after responding to a court summons, and was then escorted to Kwale.

On October 5, he appeared at the Kwale Law Courts and pleaded not guilty. The court released him on a Sh10 million bond, and the matter will be mentioned on October 29, 2026.
