President William Ruto’s allies have criticised ethnic-based politics, urging leaders to focus on development and present clear plans for improving the lives of Kenyans ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a political gathering at Igonga grounds in Bonchari Constituency, Kisii County, presidential aide Farouk Kibet said Kenyans should support leaders who deliver development rather than divide communities.
“We want leaders who bring development to the people, not those who are full of ethnicity,” Kibet said.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed was among the leaders who backed Ruto’s re-election bid during the meeting, as government allies sought to strengthen their support in Kisii County.
The leaders also criticised the opposition, accusing its members of concentrating on political alliances and party formation instead of presenting a clear agenda for the country.
They urged voters to assess the government’s record and consider its development plans before deciding whom to elect in 2027.
The gathering was attended by Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya Toto, Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri, Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi, John Bwire, Mwengi Mutuse and Innocent Mugabe.
The event combined political mobilisation with an empowerment programme for boda boda operators, a group that plays an important role in the local economy.
Donya Toto, who is seeking the Bonchari parliamentary seat in 2027, hosted the event as leaders reached out to residents and promoted their political agenda.
The leaders’ remarks reflect growing efforts by Ruto’s allies to build support across regions ahead of the next General Election.
However, the opposition is also expected to use the period before the polls to organise its ranks and present an alternative to the current administration.
