Evening flights were disrupted, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at Kisumu International Airport after an incoming KQ flight stalled on the runway for more than an hour and a half.
The delay caused panic among the majority of passengers who were scheduled to land at Kisumu Airport at 6:15 pm, but the arrival was significantly delayed.
Due to the size of the aircraft and the limited runway, the pilots faced difficulty in landing. Witnesses reported that the pilots attempted to land twice without success.
The third attempt, the aircraft had a bird strike further complicating the situation, it finally landed and caused delay.
Former Citizen TV political reporter Chemutai Goin, who was among the passengers, took to her social media to share her experience.
“What an eventful evening. We took off at the JKIA at 5:25 pm aboard a Kenya Airways flight to Kisumu. We were scheduled to.land at 6:15pm. however experienced two aborted landings due to strong winds and had to be airborne for a little longer. On the third landing attempt we struck a bird, Finally landed but the aircraft is inoperable, so we were waiting to be towed from the runway but the bird is lodged in the steering system so it cannot turn. We will be ferried to the arrivals area. Hats off to the Pilots…Wueh!” she wrote.
The same was shared by another passenger Pst Oodi Oomo who admitted that it was a scary experience.
