Coffinless burial for the mountain lover who died in Mount Everest

In a heartfelt ceremony, family, friends, and colleagues gathered to honor the memory of Kenyan mountaineer Cheruiyot Kirui, who tragically lost his life on Mount Everest.

Cheruiyot, alongside his guide Nawang Sherpa, met an untimely end at the treacherous slopes of the world’s tallest peak.

As the search for his guide’s body continues, Cheruiyot’s family made the difficult decision to let his spirit rest on the mountain he so dearly loved.

The burial service, attended by a diverse array of people from various backgrounds, served as a poignant tribute to a remarkable young man.

Among those present were his family, friends, and colleagues from the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), who spoke fondly of Cheruiyot’s exceptional qualities that set him apart.

In a departure from tradition, instead of a coffin placed prominently at the front of the service, a photograph of Cheruiyot was tenderly positioned on a seat. It was a poignant symbol of his enduring presence and the profound choice his family made to honor his connection with the majestic peaks of Everest.

Friends called on the government to look for any mountain in Kenya and name it after him as a honor.
