GEM YALA: Earlier today, members of the public in Rarieda village, Gem Yala sub-county, took justice into their own hands, lynching a man suspected of theft.
The mob brutally attacked the man before police arrived to intervene and rescue him from the enraged crowd. He was promptly rushed to Nyabeda Dispensary, where health officials provided immediate medical attention.
The suspect, identified as Fredrick Odhiambo, continued to suffer from excruciating chest pains, necessitating his transfer to Yala sub-county hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, tragedy struck en route to the hospital, and he passed away. His body has since been transferred to Yala Mortuary, pending an autopsy.
According to a police incident report from the Nyabeda Police post, “He was then taken to Nyabeda Dispensary where he was attended to and referred to Yala sub-county hospital for further treatment. He lay on the ground, complaining of chest pains, and a motor vehicle was called in to escort him to Yala sub-county hospital, but he succumbed on the way. The body now lies at Yala Level IV hospital mortuary pending autopsy.”
