Ex Governor Wafula Wangamati lands a huge lucrative deal cortesy of President Ruto

Former Bungoma Governor, Wafula Wangamati, has been appointed by the CS Treasury and Economic Planning, Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, to serve as the Chairperson of the Public Service Superannuation Fund Board of Trustees, a move that has brought him immense joy.

In a letter expressing his gratitude, Wangamati, who recently faced the loss of his building in Bungoma town, expressed his determination not to disappoint President William Ruto and CS Prof Ngung’u.

“As the 4th Kenyan to qualify as an Actuary in the country, I recognize the importance of the Public Service Superannuation Fund, the second-largest fund AFTER NSSF in the country with a fund size of Kshs.135 billion and monthly contributions of about Kshs.3 billion. I hope to bring into the Fund my vast experience as a qualified actuary and an experienced senior manager/advisor in Pensions and Investment Consultancy,” said the elated Wangamati.

Mr. Wangamati was among the beneficiaries of President Ruto’s recent visit to Bungoma County during the 61st Madaraka Day celebrations.

This new appointment is expected to provide Wangamati with financial stability and a platform to potentially pursue a gubernatorial race, which has already attracted several potential candidates.

The former county boss is a seasoned actuary who has worked in South Africa and England before returning to Kenya. In Kenya, he served as the Managing Director for Alexander Forbes Risk and Insurance from 2009. He resigned from the position in 2017 after defeating the current Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka to become the second governor. However, he lost to Mr. Lusaka in the 2022 elections.

Will he reclaim his seat in 2027? Only time will tell.
