Pain as an infant is burnt beyond recognition in Siaya

Alego Usonga: In Agulu village, a family is grieving the tragic loss of an infant who perished in a devastating fire that engulfed their home.

The infant, identified as Samson Omogo Odhiambo, aged eight months, was burned beyond recognition in the blaze.

Washington Oduor, who reported the incident to Siaya Police Station, revealed that the infant tragically lost his life while his parents were away.

Pamela Awour, the mother, had ventured to Ouru market that evening, leaving behind her three children in the house.

It is suspected that during her absence, the children, aged two, six, and the deceased infant, played with a matchbox, inadvertently igniting the fatal fire.

“The mother had gone to Ouru market in the evening, leaving the deceased and his two younger siblings aged two and six years respectively in the house, and it is suspected that the children played with a matchbox, then the mattress caught fire and spread to the entire semi-permanent mud house. Members of the public responded promptly to extinguish the fire,” explained Mr. Oduor.

The blaze ravaged the semi-permanent mud house, causing an estimated property loss of Sh50,000.

Despite the efforts of the community to douse the flames, they were unable to save the infant in time.

Following the tragic incident, the body of the infant was transported to the Siaya County Referral Mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The entire village mourns the loss of young Samson Omogo Odhiambo, while the family grapples with the profound grief of losing a beloved child in such a devastating manner.
