Stay out of it, you’re making things worse,” Mike Sonko told Charlene Ruto.
The former Nairobi governor took to Twitter to urge the president to directly engage with Gen Z youth, suggesting that Charlene’s involvement was exacerbating tensions.
Sonko criticized government officials for avoiding truth and sincerity in their actions.
“Madam Charlene, I have just seen this video online. I know guys in the government, fear telling you the truth and addressing you with facts and sincerity?. Now that I have become a rebel and no longer loyal, let me share some facts and pieces of advice with you. Kindly just relax as your actions are just raising the political temperatures of the leaderless young people,” read the post of the former city boss.
Identifying himself as a rebel no longer loyal to the government, Sonko advised Charlene to step back, cautioning that her actions were inflaming an already heated political climate.
“I know you’ve been doing a tremendous good job on the ground. I even complimented you at some point, but for now, just keep off, please, until things cool down, kabisa, as you might be worsening the situation,” he further stated.
In a statement released on July 3rd, Charlene Ruto stressed the importance of constructive dialogue and encouraged youth involvement in governance and civic affairs.
She expressed regret over ongoing protests, describing them as instigated by disruptive forces seeking to destabilize the country.
Earlier, Charlene had defended President Ruto’s administration, emphasizing his commitment to the welfare of Kenyans.
