Kimani Ichungwa openly disrespect Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

In what appeared to be a public display of disrespect towards Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichungwa made it clear today that he neither respects nor acknowledges him.

Speaking at an event attended by President William Ruto, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Mr. Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and others, the Majority Leader in the assembly failed to acknowledge the second-in-command.

During his speech, Mr. Ichungwa welcomed Kalonzo Musyoka to address the media, followed by Mr. Odinga.

To the surprise of many, before handing over the microphone to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Mr. Ichungwa directed Mr. Odinga to invite the President to speak after him.

“Thank you to former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka. Allow me to take this opportunity to welcome the former Prime Minister, who will then invite the President to address the media,” Mr. Ichungwa stated.

From Mr. Gachagua’s facial expression, it was clear that as the Deputy President, being skipped over did not sit well with him.

Following Mr. Odinga’s remarks, he proceeded to call upon President Ruto to address the media. However, it was the Head of State who intervened to invite his deputy to speak first.

“Thank you very much. Let me invite the Deputy President to address you before I proceed,” President Ruto announced.

This incident underscores the visible rift among Mount Kenya leaders.
