Edah Ayon, a prolific Luo Benga and Ohangla artist, has opened up about the hurdles female artists face in the music industry.

During an interview with Simy Kenya TV, Ms. Ayon highlighted the gender biases prevalent among producers who often prioritize male artists over their female counterparts.

“I know of three female artists with better content than some male artists, but they aren’t getting the support they deserve,” she shared.

Ayon, a single mother, also addressed the issue of online trolling, particularly body shaming, which she has experienced firsthand.

“People are mean on social media. They insult you and expect you to stay quiet. As an artist, you’re human too, and you feel pain,” she expressed.

Despite the negativity, Ayon has developed resilience. She candidly shared how she deals with body shaming: “When I’m alone at home, I strip naked and look at myself. My ‘small behind’ has an amazing shape. Small but beautiful.”
