Looking Lakewards; President Ruto nominates Dorcus Oduor as the next Attorney General

In what might seem to to be shifting focus towards the Lake region, President William Ruto has nominated seasoned lawyer Dorcus Oduor for the position of Attorney General.

The position which was previously occupied by former National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi will be occupied by a woman for the first time if the assembly gives a node.

Ms Oduor is an esteemed advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He holds a Master of Arts in International Conflict Management and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree, both from the University of Nairobi (UoN), as well as a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.

Currently, Oduor serves as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Her extensive experience includes previously holding positions such as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions and Head of the Economic, International, and Emerging Crimes Departments within the ODPP.

Oduor’s distinguished career also includes roles as Deputy Chief State Counsel and State Counsel in the Department of Public Prosecution at the former Office of the Attorney General.

She has contributed to numerous agencies and commissions, including serving as the Chairperson of the Board of Review on Mentally Insane (Criminal Psychiatric) and Assisting Counsel for the Akiwumi Commission on Land Clashes and the Bosire Commission on the Goldenberg Affair.

Additionally, Oduor has worked as Assisting Counsel for the Kiruki Commission on the Artur Brothers, Joint Secretary for the Police Reform Commission (Ransley Commission), Chair of the Board on Criminal Psychiatrists on behalf of the Attorney General, and a member of the National Task Force on Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, among other significant roles.
