Mother and son in custody for killing their kin in Murang’a

MURANG’A: Gatunduguru village in Murang’a County, a horrifying crime has left the community in shock.

A mother and her son are in police custody, accused of the brutal murder of one of their kin, John Ng’ang’a.

The tragic incident unfolded late at night when the lifeless body of John Ng’ang’a was discovered in his bed, sparking fear and disbelief among the villagers.

The once-peaceful home had turned into a crime scene, with bloodstains and shattered glass telling a grim story.

Eyewitnesses paint a chilling picture of the events leading up to the murder.

Ng’ang’a, known to many in the village as a petty thief and troublemaker, had returned home in a drunken rage.

His anger quickly escalated into a heated argument with his mother, and in a fit of fury, he shattered one of the windows of their house.

Unable to calm her son, Ng’ang’a’s mother, fearing for her safety, called out to his younger brother, Morris Kinuthia, who lived nearby.

Within moments, Morris appeared, clutching a rungu—a traditional wooden club—determined to protect his mother.

What followed was a violent confrontation that ended in tragedy.

“He was uncontrollable,” recounted Eric Kibandi, the deceased’s other brother. “When he started smashing things, my mother screamed for help. Morris came out with the rungu and struck Ng’ang’a, who fell right here at my doorstep.”

Ng’ang’a’s history of theft and rebellious behavior had long been a source of tension within the family.

Jane Wairimu, the local Nyumba Kumi Chair, revealed that his actions had alienated him from many in the community.

“He had stolen from his own mother before, selling off her belongings without a care. Warnings were given, but they were always ignored,” Wairimu explained.

Now, with both suspects held at Muthithi Police Station, the community is left grappling with the devastating loss and the shocking reality of a family torn apart by violence.

As investigations continue, villagers are left to wonder what could have been done to prevent such a senseless act.
