Bonface Mwangi and four others released after one month behind bars

Bonface Mwangi and other suspects were released this morning after staying in police cells for over one month.

Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe released the suspects, stating that the Prosecution did not convince the court that they needed two more weeks to complete their investigation.

“I decline to allow police to continue with the investigations for two or more weeks. I hereby release the suspects unconditionally,” said the Magistrate.

The court subsequently ordered the release of their cash bail, which they had posted when they first appeared in court on July 26, 2024.

Boniface Mwangi was set free alongside Albert Wambugu, Pablo Chacha, Robert Otieno, and Erot Franco.

They were accused of publishing false material, unlawful assembly, and creating a disturbance.

Speaking after their release outside Milimani Law Courts, Mwangi demanded the release of three Kenyans whose whereabouts remain unknown.

The three were allegedly abducted by unknown individuals in Kitengela, Kajiado County. They are Bob Micheni, Jamil Longton, and Aslam Longton.

“Our demand is that you release these three men and every other person who is missing, unconditionally,” he said.

Mwangi announced plans to march to State House to submit a list containing the names of all missing people.

“We are planning to go to State House to give President William Ruto a list of the missing people. We shall march to State House because it is a public house,” the activist declared.
