Jilted man mutilates ex-lover, injures son and takes own life

A gruesome act of violence shocked the residents of Kamguntho, Uriri Sub-County, after a man allegedly mutilated his estranged ex-girlfriend and injured a minor before taking his own life.

Confirming the incident, area chief Samuel Owino said it occurred on Wednesday night around 8:30 p.m. The suspect, Charles Odoyo, attacked Rose Aloma, severing her hands and inflicting deep cuts on her chest and legs. The 40-year-old then slashed a 12-year-old boy on the forehead before hanging himself.

“Rose is a widow, and she and Charles had been cohabiting for ten years before separating three years ago. It seems Charles may have hoped for reconciliation. Upon learning that Rose was involved with another man, he became enraged and attacked her,” said Owino.

Rose and her son were rushed to Migori Level 4 Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. Meanwhile, Charles’ body was taken to Rabkon Mortuary in Awendo, awaiting a postmortem examination.

Samuel Owino urged residents not to take matters into their own hands, emphasizing that authorities are available to mediate disputes. “We need to resolve misunderstandings peacefully and avoid such extreme actions. Tragedies like this can be prevented,” he added.

The community has been left stunned by the violent outcome of a domestic dispute. “They had been separated for three years. If Rose decided to move on, why couldn’t he? Instead, he chose to do this to her,” lamented neighbor Mary Akinyi.

As Rose and her son recuperate, police have launched an investigation into the incident.
