Former President Moi’s grandson arrested for disobeying the court orders

Collins Kibet Moi, the grandson of former President Daniel Moi, has been arrested in Nakuru over a child support case after evading court appearances multiple times.

Lawyer Elizabeth Wangare, representing Kibet’s ex-wife, Gladys Jeruto Tagi, confirmed to Kondele News that he was apprehended on Wednesday morning at his house in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

Kibet, the son of the late Jonathan Toroitich Moi, had been on the run for seven months. His ex-wife filed a contempt of court case against him, accusing him of failing to comply with 2022 court orders mandating him to support their two children.

Over time, the arrears had accumulated, prompting legal action.

Principal Magistrate Kipkurui Kibelion issued a warrant for Kibet’s arrest in April after he ignored court summons.

Kibet, known for his tumultuous personal life, recently faced eviction from his home. In an affidavit filed on April 7, he explained that his inheritance case was scheduled for July 19, a date he considered too distant given his pressing financial obligations.

“July 19 is too far off, especially with the looming deadline from the applicant’s former landlord to settle outstanding rent of Sh200,702 by April 19,” the affidavit stated.

Kibet emphasized that he is an orphan, with his father, Jonathan Kipkemboi Moi, passing away in 2019, two years after his mother’s death.
