Pain as a man hacks wife to death in Siaya County

A village in Siaya County was rocked by tragedy after a young woman was brutally hacked to death by her estranged husband in a horrifying case of domestic violence.

The gruesome incident occurred this morning at Kolal-Nyasita village in West Alego location, Alego Usonga constituency, leaving residents in shock and grief.

Laurine Ochieng, 24, had arrived at her former husband’s home around 8:00 a.m. to pick up her five-year-old daughter.

She was accompanied by her sister and a boda boda operator.

According to neighbor David Otieno, Alloyce Ochieng, the alleged assailant, greeted them calmly before inviting Laurine into his mother’s house for a private discussion.

Alloyce asked his mother to leave the room so they could settle their differences, but once the door was locked, he turned on Laurine with a sharp panga.

Her terrified screams filled the air as she was attacked, but despite the desperate efforts of his mother and neighbors to stop him, he continued the brutal assault.

He fled only after realizing she was dead.

Pastor Musa Otieno Okech recounted the community’s horror and disbelief at the tragedy.

Police were alerted and transported Laurine’s body to the Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary.

The incident sparked outrage among the victim’s relatives, who stormed Alloyce’s homestead, setting his house and his mother’s house on fire before leaving for the mortuary where her body had been taken.

Neighbor Janet Atieno condemned the violence, calling for peaceful conflict resolution and urging couples to seek non-violent ways of addressing their differences.

Siaya Sub-County Police Commander Everline Cherotich confirmed the murder and stated that investigations are underway as police launch a search for Alloyce, who remains at large.

The tragedy highlights the urgent need for stronger domestic violence prevention measures, community education on peaceful conflict resolution, and more effective law enforcement responses to protect lives and ensure justice.
