Village still in shock after a man killed wife and then died by ingesting poison

Nandi: Kibati village in Nandi County is still reeling in shock after a domestic misunderstanding led to death of two people; man stabbing wife and in turn taking poison.

Hanise Juma allegedly committed the offence on Wednesday night after he ambushed his wife, Winnie Akusuha at her parents’ home in Nandi.

The young couple lived in Nairobi with their three children until last weekend when a falling out between them saw Winnie pack her bags and head for Narok, she took her three children with her.

Nandi South police commander, Maina Nduriri, said that unknown to Winnie, Juma followed her to Narok, sneaking into her family home unnoticed on Wednesday night at around 7pm.

The unsuspecting Winnie was cooking supper when Juma attacked and stabbed her multiple times.

“Once he got into the compound. He cornered her while she was preparing dinner and attacked her. He stabbed her repeatedly,” said the Sub-County police boss.

Winnie’s father, Musa Keya, said that they heard a commotion in the kitchen and upon investigating, the suspect fled the scene, leaving his daughter in a pool of blood.

He added that the deceased had deep stab wounds on her head, face, chest and stomach.

Surprisingly, Juma’s lifeless body was found a few hundred meters from his in-law’s home.

Police suspect that he might have consumed poison before slitting his throat; investigations have since commenced as the bodies were taken to Jumia Hospital Mortuary in Vihiga County.
