Newborn Baby Abandoned at Naivasha Hospital Over Deformities, Urgent Surgery Needed

A newborn baby girl has been abandoned by her mother at Itarc Hospital in Naivasha after she was born with multiple deformities.

The mother refused to touch, clothe, or breastfeed the child, while her family labeled her “cursed” due to the abnormalities affecting her face, fingers, and toes.

According to hospital medics, the baby lacks a nose, has an incomplete skull formation, and is missing some fingers and toes.

She is currently breathing through her mouth, raising concerns over potential infections.

Dr Muchai Kimani confirmed that the rejection was due to cultural beliefs.

The hospital is feeding the baby with formula milk, but we are making arrangements to transfer her to another facility for a special surgery,” he stated.

The hospital’s Operations Manager, James Kabuki, revealed that a specialist at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has been identified to perform the critical surgery.

However, the procedure is costly, and the baby will need a home after recovery. We are calling for support to fund the surgery and ensure she has a place to go after treatment,” Kabuki added.

Itarc Hospital Director, Njoroge Wainana, assured that the facility will support the baby throughout her medical journey.
