CS Wandayi responds to Governor Orengo over development remarks

POLITICS: Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has taken issue with Siaya Governor James Orengo over comments he made regarding development in the Nyanza region during the burial of Raila Odinga’s longtime aide, George Oduor.

Wandayi, a former National Assembly Minority Leader, criticized Orengo’s assertion that development is an automatic right for every citizen.

According to Wandayi, while development may be a right in principle, leaders must actively lobby for it to be realized—especially under the current administration“You cannot simply say that development is your right.

It may be, but you have to lobby for it in order to receive it from the ruling administration,” said Wandayi during the launch of an electricity project in Migori County.

He emphasized that government resources are limited, and securing development requires influence and constructive engagement with national leadership.

“The resources we have in this country are scarce. It takes a good relationship with the government to ensure they reach the grassroots,” he added.

Wandayi also reiterated the importance of supporting ODM party leader Raila Odinga, calling on local leaders to respect and follow his guidance.

“Once our party leader makes a decision, we must respect and follow it,” he said, warning that those who oppose Odinga’s direction are not only wasting their time but also that of the people who elected them.
