President Ruto to host Kisii leaders as country experience political realignment

President William Ruto will on Friday morning host leaders and professionals from the Gusii community at State House, Nairobi, for a breakfast meeting centred on development projects in the region.

This, according to many political observers, is meant to woo support from the region that has already had two people expressing interests to unseat him; David Maraga, former Chief Justice and Dr Fred Matiangi, former CS in Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba and Broadcasting PS Stephen Isaboke will lead the professionals’ delegation, with some attendees travelling from Kisii and Nyamira counties.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati, National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro, UDA Treasurer Japhet Nyakundi, and Bomachoge Chache MP Alpha Miruka are among the political leaders expected, having met in Nairobi on Wednesday to prepare for the talks.

The invitation, sent to selected leaders, states: “The agenda will be to discuss development programmes for our community.”

The meeting comes amid growing political jitters in the region, where former Interior Cabinet Secretary Matiang’i has signalled interest in a presidential run.

Several leaders, including North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, have openly campaigned for him.

It also precedes three by-elections in Nyamira County scheduled for November 27, 2025 — Nyansiongo ward in Borabu Constituency (Matiang’i’s birthplace), Ekerenyo in North Mugirango, and Nyamaiya in West Mugirango.
