Viwandani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Aaron Kang’ara Wangari, popularly known as “Rooney,” has been arraigned before the Makadara Law Courts to face serious charges of robbery with violence, theft, and malicious damage to property.
The sitting legislator was charged alongside two alleged accomplices—his personal assistant Kefa Munyoro (also identified as Kepha Muiyoro Wanjiru) and Zablon Kirima Mwangi, a Nairobi County official appointed by the Governor.
The charges stem from a violent June 26, 2026, incident in the Donholm area of Nairobi, where the trio allegedly led a group that stormed and disrupted operations at a local business premises housing a car wash, auto spare shop, and public toilet.
During the targeted attack, the prosecution asserts that the suspects violently robbed three workers. One victim, Moses Ochieng’ Okumu, was reportedly robbed of a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold phone, a 450-gram silver chain, and cash, with his stolen personal items totaling an estimated KSh 170,000. Two other victims, Ian Ndirangu Muturi and Samuel Njihia Mwaniki, were also robbed of their mobile phones. Furthermore, court documents reveal that the suspects allegedly returned to the premises two days later armed with machetes and metal rods, assaulting the occupants, stealing office electronics, and destroying water tanks and CCTV security systems worth over KSh 260,000.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate Juliana Ndeng’eri, all three suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their defense counsel, Macharia Kenneth, successfully lobbied for their release, arguing that the MCA is a father of four and that his co-accused are public servants who pose no flight risk. While State Counsel Edsan Papai did not oppose bail, the magistrate issued a stern warning prohibiting the accused from visiting the disputed premises or contacting the victims. The suspects were each granted a bond of KSh 1 million with an alternative cash bail of KSh 500,000, with the case scheduled for hearing on December 16, 2026.
