Macalder Kanyarwanda MCA Felix Okwanyo broke down in tears outside the High Court moments after former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two co-accused were found guilty in the 2018 murder of Sharon Otieno.

Shortly after the judge declared all three guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, Okwanyo broke down into uncontrollable wails, covering his face with a handkerchief before hurrying out of the silent courtroom.

The courtroom drama punctuated a landmark ruling centered heavily on Obado’s motive.

Justice Githua rejected the former governor’s assertion that his affair with Sharon was an “open secret” known to his family and staff.

Instead, the court emphasized Obado’s desperation to protect his political standing by preventing the relationship and Sharon’s pregnancy from escalating into a public scandal.

Crucial to establishing his intent was the testimony of prosecution witness PW9.

The witness recalled a meeting at Obado’s residence where the former governor escorted them to the staircase, promised to stay in touch, and explicitly ordered them not to tell anyone about Sharon’s pregnancy, a key directive that Obado’s defense team notably left unchallenged.
