Meru boy 4, drowns in a fish pond as decomposing body is retrieved from River Sondu Miriu in Nyakach

Tragedy struck the Kiutine area in Kiengu Sub-county, Meru County, on Monday after a four-year-old boy drowned in a neighbor’s fish pond.

According to police, the child’s father reported that his son accidentally slipped into the pond while trying to cut oranges nearby.

Officers who visited the scene conducted preliminary examinations and found no visible external injuries, indicating the boy drowned.

His body was moved to the Nyambene Level 4 Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

In a separate incident in Kisumu County, police in Nyakach have launched an investigation following the recovery of an unidentified man’s decomposing body from River Sondu Miriu.

Passersby spotted the body floating near the Agai area on Saturday and alerted local authorities.

With the assistance of community members, police retrieved the body and transferred it to the Nyakach Sub-County Mortuary for formal identification and an autopsy.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the man’s identity, cause of death, and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
