Kenyan star Madina Okot reaches 100-Rebound WNBA milestone

BY AGENCY: Kenyan basketball sensation Madina Okot reached a historic milestone in her blossoming Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) career on Thursday, July 30, crossing the 100-rebound mark.

The rookie center achieved the feat during the Atlanta Dream’s thrilling, come-from-behind 82–81 victory over the Dallas Wings at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park.

Fresh off the WNBA All-Star Weekend break, the 6-foot-6 former Zetech University star played three minutes off the bench.

Entering the game with 99 rebounds to her name, Okot needed just one more board to reach triple digits.

She secured her 100th career rebound with 5:01 remaining in the second quarter, pulling down a defensive board to write her name in the history books.

Recognition

Celebrating the achievement, the Atlanta Dream posted an image of the center on social media with the caption: “Big numbers for the rookie! That’s 100 Career Rebounds for Madina Okot.”

The milestone builds on what has been a groundbreaking debut campaign for Okot.

Back in April 2026, she made history as the first Kenyan ever selected in the first round of the WNBA Draft when the Dream chose her 13th overall.

Despite adjusting to the pace of America’s premier league, Okot has proven to be an impactful presence for head coach Karl Smesko, appearing in every game this season and earning several starting assignments.

On the court, the Dream had to fight hard for their 17th victory of the season after overcoming a 15-point deficit.

Guard Allisha Gray delivered a clutch performance, scoring Atlanta’s final five points to seal the 82–81 victory.

Gray finished with a game-high 25 points, going 9-for-9 from the free-throw line, while fellow frontcourt star Angel Reese chipped in 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Okot and the Dream will look to build on their momentum when they host the Seattle Storm on Saturday, August 1.
