Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was apprehended by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Monday morning following a high-stakes, overnight standoff at the Royal Media Services (RMS) headquarters in Nairobi.

The drama unfolded after the lawmaker sought refuge inside the media house on Sunday evening, alleging that hooded men and police officers were waiting outside to whisk him away.

Trouble began shortly after Kaguchia appeared on Inooro TV’s popular Kiririmbi show.

Sensing he was being monitored, the MP refused to leave the RMS complex, claiming security personnel had surrounded the premises and erected roadblocks nearby.

“A contingent of Police have surrounded Royal Media Studios and erected road blocks with intentions of arresting me! I will NOT BE INTIMIDATED whatsoever,” Kaguchia posted on social media during the siege.

The police action stems from remarks Kaguchia made during a political rally in Kieni, Nyeri County, over the weekend.

Speaking in his native Kikuyu dialect, the MP issued a stern warning to Mt. Kenya residents against voting for President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election, allegedly stating that those who do will be tracked down to their homes.

Kaguchia denied any wrongdoing, insisting his statements were twisted to create a narrative of incitement:

Speaking to Citizen TV on Monday morning, the MP accused government digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and several government-aligned MPs of orchestrating a social media campaign to hype up his comments.

Kaguchia noted that he had received no formal summons from law enforcement or the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), learning about the investigation only through social media posts.

He argued that any dispute over political utterances falls strictly under the purview of the NCIC, adding that he was fully prepared to present himself to the commission voluntarily.

Despite the MP’s arguments, Regional DCI Commander Daniel Kandie led a team to apprehend Kaguchia as he exited the RMS offices on Monday.

While initial plans were to take him to the regional DCI offices at Milimani for interrogation, subsequent reports confirmed he was taken directly to the DCI Main Headquarters along Kiambu Road for further questioning.
