I am ready to die for good governance of Kenya, Siaya Governor James Orengo

By GEOFREY KASERA: Siaya Governor James Orengo has vowed to lead the Sunday, August 16 Linda Mwananchi meeting in Homa Bay, saying he is ready to die for the country.

Mr. Orengo, who addressed journalists today in Kisumu, said nothing would stop the Linda Mwananchi brigade from attending the August 16 meeting.

“There are plans to disrupt the meeting so that we don’t meet the people. This is quite unfortunate; in all other parts of the country where Linda Mwananchi has held rallies, we have been received well,” said Mr. Orengo.

He went on, “This is an outdated politics of intimidating dissenting voices. It cannot work today.”

The Siaya County boss also noted that he had suffered for many years fighting for good governance in the country and would not allow Kenya to backtrack on the gains made over the years.

“If I take off my shirt, you will see scars that resulted from many years of torture fighting for better governance,” he added.

He also pointed out that he is ready to pay the ultimate price with his life.

“If my life will lead to better governance of this country, then so be it. I am willing to pay the ultimate price just to see Kenya get good governance. We shall be in Homa Bay with Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, and other leaders.”

The Siaya County boss alleged that some leaders had organized goons to stop them from meeting the people in Homa Bay.

“Yesterday, crude weapons were distributed to goons. The remaining weapons are kept at Genowa Center—you all know that was the official tallying center for the current governor,” said Orengo.

“Today, the same goons held a meeting at the Homa Bay Town Constituency MP’s residence, where plans were discussed on how to block us from reaching Homa Bay.”

“You will not believe,” Orengo went on, “businesswomen have been mobilized to go to Kabunde Airstrip on that day; this is meant to stop any aircraft from landing.”
