National Assembly Majority Whip and South Mugirango Member of Parliament, Sylvanus Osoro, mounted a fiery political offensive on Friday afternoon at Oruba Boys’ Secondary School during a community empowerment event.
Speaking to hundreds of women coming from Suna West who gathered for the disbursement of funds which were collected during an empowerment drive in the month of July,Osoro pulled no punches, turning what was billed as an empowerment forum into a blistering assault against opposition leaders, rival political formations, and former government officials.
Labeling former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua a “Judas,” Osoro accused him of engaging in opportunistic sympathy-seeking at the expense of grieving families.
Osoro targeted Gachagua’s recent public engagements across Nyandarua, Narok, and the wider region, highlighting what he described as stark hypocrisy in the former DP’s political engagements.
He pointed out that despite serving as Deputy President for two years, Gachagua routinely ignored ordinary citizens and local leaders in areas like Ol Kalou constituency.
“Wakati ulikuwa Naibu wa Rais miaka miwili, haukukanyaga huko hata siku moja,” Osoro charged, arguing that Gachagua only saw fit to visit Ol Kalou and neighboring constituencies after losing his executive position.
The lawmaker singled out Gachagua’s visit to the gravesite of the late MP Johana Ngeno, branding the gesture a calculated ploy to whip up public sympathy and political momentum.
He accused the former Deputy President of showing deep disrespect to the deceased legislator’s family by turning a place of mourning into a platform for partisan posturing.
“Leo unakuja hapa kuja kusumbua mama wa miaka 89, mama ya marehemu… unamwambia ‘Simama nikusalimie ndio nipige picha niweke Facebook,'” Osoro stated.
“Shame on you bwana! Umedharau hizi kabila zingine ndogo ndogo!”
Historical entitlement
Opening his broader critique with an energetic rally call to the crowd, Osoro launched into an extended commentary on Kenya’s historical leadership, taking direct aim at past political establishments that he accused of practicing “siasa ya entitlement” (politics of entitlement).
The lawmaker argued that past regimes had systematically marginalized the Nyanza and Western regions in infrastructure, education, and public resource allocation while prioritizing select areas.
He targeted past executive administrations, arguing that national wealth and top Cabinet appointments such as the Treasury docket were historically treated as regional preserves, leaving the larger Nyanza belt to grapple with underdeveloped infrastructure.
“Sisi tumetoka sehemu moja inaitwa Nyanza,” Osoro declared to the roaring crowd. “Hiyo miaka yote wamekuwa maraisi… siku moja tu Nyanza tumepata CS wa Treasury, mnaanza kulialia hapa kutuambia one term! One term kitu gani bwana?”
He defended the current administration’s infrastructure agenda, pointing to major highway developments and local constituency-level road projects as necessary corrections to decades of regional disparity.
Attack on opposition leaders
The National Assembly Whip did not hold back when taking aim at prominent political figures across the opposition divide, emerging voices, and prospective presidential contenders for the 2027 general election.
Addressing rising figures within opposition circles, including prominent senators and party officials, Osoro dismissed their presidential ambitions as premature and fueled merely by fleeting youth euphoria.
Reflecting on recent commentary regarding young presidential hopefuls, Osoro warned that those hyping unseasoned leaders as presidential material would be the first to turn on them once the realities of national administration set in.
He asserted that managing national politics and government requires deep executive experience rather than reliance on opposition rhetoric.
Osoro extended his critique to local leaders within Nyanza itself, accusing them of playing into the hands of external political rivals and undermining local progress.
He specifically called out lawmakers like Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and other regional figures over their public statements regarding state appointments given to Nyanza natives.
Referring to recent public appointments awarded to individuals from Nyanza, Osoro condemned local leaders who questioned the competence of their fellow regional leaders in public forums.
“Unasimama unasema ati huyu jamaa hajatosha… na wewe mwenyewe unatoka hapa, wewe pia ni Mjaluo! Unasema rudisha hiyo kitu kwa wengine?” Osoro posed.
“Bwana wacheni mchezo! Watu waache kutuchezea!”
Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamita took the stage to echo Sylvanus Osoro’s sharp rebukes, directly calling out Suba South MP Caroli Omondi over his recent media commentary.
Nyamita accused Omondi of belittling and trivializing state-backed projects coming into the Nyanza region, arguing that such public skepticism from within local ranks plays into the hands of external political rivals and risks sabotaging hard-won development gains.
“When we dismiss government interventions as ‘piecemeal,’ we are playing into the hands of external political rivals and undermining our own people’s progress.”
Nyamita maintained that every government project regardless of scale is a critical brick in rebuilding a region recovering from decades of systemic underinvestment.
“Our goal should not be to reject progress in pursuit of ideal multi-billion-shilling projects, but to secure every possible development resource that brings Nyanza into the national grid.”
“No project is too small for a region that has suffered decades of structural neglect. Every borehole, tarmac stretch, and market upgrade directly transforms lives today.”
He cautioned regional leaders against adopting a posture of political entitlement or perfectionism that dismisses tangible progress on the ground, emphasizing that local communities urgently need functional roads, water connections, and market infrastructure today rather than speculative promises for tomorrow.
Concluding his address,Osoro urged the residents of Nyanza to reject divisive ethnic politics, stay united, and firmly back ongoing national development initiatives.
He directly appealed to Dr Wycliffe Oparanya the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development. to enforce affirmative action in resource allocation for Nyanza and Western Kenya.
Osoro asserted that if past administrations channeled massive development allocations to central regions, Nyanza and Western Kenya should now receive three times as much to permanently close historical gaps in rural electrification, clean water access, and expanded tarmac road networks.
