Energy CS Opiy Wandayi has claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is using Siaya Governor James Orengo in an effort to divide the Luo Nyanza votes.

Speaking at a fundraiser at Ruma Secondary School in Rarieda, the energy boss stated that the decision to run for the presidency is not the plan of the Siaya County boss, but rather that of his sponsor.

“Yesterday, you heard him declare that he now wants to be the next president of Kenya. These are theatrics that we know and we are used to,” said Mr. Wandayi.

He added, “Just like he was used by the late President Moi to scuttle the Luo votes in 2002, the same thing is happening now. The former President wants to divide the Luo Nyanza votes.”

“Back in 2002, he was used and he ended up losing his Ugenya seat. If he decides that he will be on the ballot to succeed President Ruto, then let him come, but I must tell him that our region is behind President Ruto.”

These sentiments come at a time when the Siaya County boss is facing backlash from fellow leaders from Siaya and the Nyanza region.

Speaking in Ugenya yesterday, MP David Ochieng called on Orengo to quit politics, noting that all those who began the political journey with Orengo have hung up their boots and are resting.

“Orengo’s agemates like Paul Muite and Gitobu Imanyara are off the stage and have left the young generation to continue. Why can’t he resign and rest?” said Ochieng.
