By GEOFREY KASERA: Teddy Okech, Cardinal of the Nomiya Church of Kenya, has strongly condemned the rising political intolerance witnessed across different parts of the country.

Speaking during a funds drive at Kasagam Secondary School in Kisumu, the clergy warned that Kenya is slowly drifting toward lawlessness reminiscent of the crisis in Haiti.

“We can’t have a country where every politician or political group claims to have their own territory. That means we are slowly sinking the Haiti way,” said Mr. Okech.

“This is a country governed by law, and every person has a right to visit any place, sell their ideas, and try to win the support of the people. We must say no to political intolerance,” he added.

With the 2027 general elections approaching in less than a year, Mr Okech urged political leaders to engage in dialogue with the church and the electorate, calling on them to tone down inflammatory rhetoric.

Reflecting on recent incidents of violence, he questioned the commitment to democratic values, citing the recent attack on Siaya Governor James Orengo in Awendo.

“The other day, Siaya Governor James Orengo was attacked in Awendo. As a community, we claim to have fought for democracy for all these years, but how come we are the ones failing to observe the very things we fought to achieve?” he posed.
