President William Ruto has commended Pfizer for supporting Kenya’s drive toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), attributing the progress to citizen contributions, legislative backing, and robust structural reforms.

Speaking on the country’s health transformation, the President revealed that 32.5 million Kenyans have already registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA), financed through public resource mobilization and key Parliamentary legislation establishing primary, social, and emergency health funds.

To ensure efficient delivery, the government has integrated digital systems through the Digital Health Agency to enhance operational transparency and curb fraud.

On the frontline, collaboration with county governments has resolved long-standing labor disputes, expanded medical personnel, and scaled up community health promotion.

Furthermore, supply chain interventions have boosted the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) stock refill rate from 40 percent to 91 percent.

To modernize local health facilities, Kenya is partnering with medical manufacturers to install high-end equipment, including MRI, CT scans, and dialysis machines, under a fee-for-service arrangement with zero upfront state cost.
