By GEOFREY KASERA: A multi-agency security operation in Kondele, Kisumu County, has dealt a major blow to organized crime following the arrest of a suspected high-profile gang leader and the recovery of tactical gear, weapons, and narcotics.
The intelligence-led crackdown, executed jointly by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Administration Police Service (APS), and the General Service Unit (GSU), intercepted a Toyota Axio carrying 34-year-old Franklin Okungu, alias “Ninjaman.”
Intelligence sources link Okungu to suspected gang leader Oliver Jaoko, alias “Olivetti.”
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence in the Manyatta area yielded an assortment of dangerous items and government stores.
Detectives recovered crude weapons including machetes, arrows, and a customized metal-clad club.
Also seized were military-style tactical gear, a helmet, jungle groundsheets, a red beret, and combat apparel, alongside cannabis sativa and weed-infused cookies.
Notably, investigators confiscated a diary and training manuals detailing combat tactics.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Okungu served as an instructor for the “American Marines,” an outfit tied to Jaoko.
He reportedly trained youth and bouncers in hand-to-hand combat, karate, and edge-weapon handling.
The group later evolved into the criminal faction known as the “Summit Gang.”
Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene, and Okungu signed the inventory of recovered exhibits.
He now faces multiple counts, including robbery with violence, unlawful possession of government stores, possession of stolen property, and narcotics offenses, as multi-agency teams extend operations to flush out remaining gang associates across Kisumu.
