Alego-Usonga is slowly lighting up, thanks to an ongoing rural electrification drive that is steadily connecting more households and villages across the constituency to the national power grid.

The initiative, implemented through a joint collaboration between the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) and Kenya Power, has already brought electricity to a significant number of homes that previously had none.

Alego-Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has continued to back the effort, pushing to extend connectivity to underserved areas that have for years relied on solar power and other alternative lighting sources.

For residents, the growing coverage promises more than just brighter homes. Officials say the expansion is expected to improve security, support small businesses, and create a better environment for learning, both in schools and at home.

“This project will assure us of our security in our homes and businesses, and also improve our children’s education, whether in school or at home,” said one resident.

While some areas are still awaiting connection, the ongoing rollout has already brought power closer to many families who previously had none. For a constituency that has watched neighbouring areas light up first, the change, though gradual, marks a significant shift.

Residents have credited the area Member of Parliament for the continued push to transform the constituency, saying his advocacy has helped keep the electrification programme on track.
