Kericho Women Rep aspirant Cheptoo Shaz dives into river to help retrieve body

A dramatic scene unfolded in Kapsoit Ward, Kericho County, after Women Representative aspirant Cheptoo Shaz personally waded into the Cheptinding River to assist in retrieving the body of an unidentified person.

Rather than watching from the riverbank, Shaz joined community members and other responders already at the scene, taking an active hands-on role in the recovery effort as onlookers gathered to witness the operation.

Her decision to enter the water herself drew visible attention from residents present, many of whom appeared moved by the aspirant’s willingness to step directly into the recovery effort rather than simply observing.

Details surrounding the incident remain scarce. The identity of the deceased has not yet been established, and the circumstances that led to the body ending up in the river are still unclear.

Authorities are expected to launch investigations to determine what happened.

Once recovery operations are complete, the body is expected to be handed over to relevant authorities for formal identification and further procedures, including a postmortem examination to help establish the cause of death.

The incident has drawn local attention not only because of the tragic nature of the discovery, but also because of Shaz’s direct involvement, a gesture some residents have described as a rare display of grassroots engagement from a political aspirant.

As investigations continue, more details are expected to emerge regarding the identity of the deceased and the events leading up to the incident.
