Media personality Oga Obinna has hit Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria with a Sh10 million demand letter, accusing him of defamation over remarks that linked Obinna’s shows to the deaths and misfortunes of several musicians.

Through his lawyer, Obinna alleges that Mosiria made false and damaging statements about him on TikTok and other social media platforms. He is demanding compensation, a public apology and the removal of the content.

The dispute began after Obinna allegedly referred to Mosiria as a “fala ako na suti” (a fool in a suit).

Mosiria responded in a video now circulating online, in which he claimed that guests who appear on Obinna’s show meet a grim fate.

“Wale watu wote wameenda kwa hiyo show, mambo ni mawili, lazima nyota izimwe ama wakufe,” Mosiria said. (All those people who have gone on that show, it’s one of two things: their star must be extinguished, or they die.)

He went on to name musicians Kimani, Brian Chira, Shalkido and Stoopid Boy.

“Kimani alikuja huko akakufa, Chira alikuja huko akakufa, Shalkido alikuja huko akakufa, Stoopid Boy alikuja huko akakufa,” he stated. (Kimani came there and died, Chira came there and died, Shalkido came there and died, Stoopid Boy came there and died.)

Mosiria also brought President William Ruto into the exchange, claiming that Obinna’s decision to carry the Head of State on a wheelbarrow at a past event had cost the President his popularity.

“Ulibeba President wetu mzuri mwenye alikuwa anapendwa, lakini tangu umubebe ulichukua nyota yake na sai anachukiwa na kila Mkenya,” he said. (You carried our good President who was loved, but since you carried him you took his star, and now he is hated by every Kenyan.)

Contents of demand letter

Obinna’s lawyer argues that the remarks have caused his client grief, humiliation, emotional distress and damage to his reputation.

Mosiria has been ordered to: issue an unequivocal public apology to Obinna through popular newspapers, immediately delete the alleged defamatory statements from all his social media platforms, unconditionally retract the statements and finally stop making, publishing, sharing or reposting any further defamatory allegations against the media personality

The letter gives Mosiria seven days to comply, failing which Obinna may pursue legal action.

The Sh10 million demand is meant to compensate him for the alleged harm.
