Police in Migori County are holding a man in connection with the murder of his wife, whose body was discovered concealed in a shallow grave behind their homestead.

The victim, identified as Everlyne Odongo, was found buried inside a sack near a latrine at the couple’s home in Ngenge Sub-location,Suna East Sub-County

Confirming the incident, Migori County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga disclosed that the local sub-location chief alerted authorities after residents reported suspicious activity at the residence of the suspect, Eric Omondi Odongo.

According to police reports, neighbors became alarmed after spotting a patch of freshly dug earth on the property.

Before law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, concerned villagers dug up the site and uncovered the victim’s body.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Odongo was last seen alive with her husband on Friday, September 25, at around 4pm during a heated dispute.

She was not seen again, raising fears among neighbors that ultimately led to the discovery.

Detectives who processed the scene noted extensive bloodstains on the interior walls of the house.

“The body had a deep cut on the right cheek, suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp object, possibly a machete,” Imbwaga stated.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the victim’s body has been transferred to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
