A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) youth official in Migori County has openly criticized Suna West Member of Parliament Peter Francis Masara, accusing his administration of marginalizing specific areas and selectively distributing government resources, including bursaries and local development projects.
Speaking on behalf of residents of Ragana, Paul Okeyo popularly known as Wuon Osama, a UDA youth leader in Migori, expressed frustration over what he described as unfair treatment in the allocation of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) resources and infrastructure development.
He called on the lawmaker to separate local political rivalries from community development, warning against using public resources to reward political loyalty while leaving out other regions.
Claims of disparate school funding and bursaries
Central to the grievances is the perceived imbalance in the distribution of school bursaries and infrastructure support. Wuon Osama claimed that educational institutions in certain zones receive consistent financial backing while schools in neighboring areas are left without sufficient assistance.
“Schools in some sections of Oruba are receiving bursaries consistently, including institutions like St.Celestino Nyangubo girls’ and Bondo. Yet schools on our side, even those that urgently need support, are left out. The CDF is not reaching these students, and many deserving youths are being denied bursaries,” he stated.
He highlighted areas such as Bishop Okinda and parts of Migori Township, arguing that despite high student populations, bursary distribution remains severely limited or non-existent.
The youth leader also pointed to infrastructure developments, specifically road construction and tarmacking projects, alleging that public works are being directed along political lines.
According to him, road tarmacking projects funded by the government have systematically bypassed Ragana and surrounding areas. He noted that paved roads appear to route around specific regions while leaving crucial connecting routes in Ragana unserviced.
“If there is development, let it be development for everyone. If it is politics, let us play politics on the field. Tarmacked roads are taking routes that deliberate bypass our communities, leaving our roads in poor condition,” he added.
Addressing recent recruitment exercises for local security and government personnel, Wuon Osama alleged that the process was biased and failed to reflect the needs of unemployed local youth. He claimed that a significant portion of applicants who registered during recent drives were overlooked in favor of connected individuals.
With fresh registration drives expected, the youth leader called on the MP and local authorities to ensure a transparent, fair process that provides equal opportunities for young people across all wards in Suna West.
“We are urging our MP to respect all residents of Suna West. Development should not be a favor granted to a few, but a right for every citizen in this constituency,”Wuon Osama concluded
