Siaya fighting mother and child mortality rate through partnership.

Siaya County has joined forces with a private Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to tackle the alarming rates of Maternal Mortality and Neonatal Mortality in the region.

County Health CECM Martin Konyango, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rescue.co, emphasized the importance of this partnership in addressing the high mortality rates, which surpass global standards.

Dr. Konyango stated, “The County Government of Siaya is committed to reducing these concerning statistics. We have high hopes that this new partnership will significantly lower the numbers.”

According to data, Siaya’s Maternal Mortality Rate currently stands at 491 deaths per 100,000 births, with a neonatal mortality rate of approximately 25 per 1000 live births.

These figures far exceed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets of 70 maternal deaths per 100,000 births and 12 neonatal deaths per 1000 live births.

Through collaborative efforts between the county government and Rescue.co, there is optimism for significant progress in improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes in Siaya County.
