A 16-year-old boy faced mob justice from members of the public for allegedly attempting to steal from an elderly woman in Wera village, Rarieda sub-county.

The suspect, Jeff Otieno, was discovered inside the elderly woman’s house and was suspected of intending to steal from her.

Siaya County Police Commander, Mr. Cleti Kimaiyo, stated that the incident was reported to Nyilima police post by a resident of the area, Alex Omino. Omino reported that a person was being subjected to mob justice in the vicinity.

Officers from the police post promptly responded to the scene but found that a good Samaritan had already intervened and rescued the suspect from the hands of an angry mob that sought to lynch him.

Mr. Kimaiyo confirmed the incident and reported that the suspect had sustained bruises all over his body and a swollen mouth. The suspect was promptly taken to the nearby Ong’ielo health center for medical treatment.”
