Comedian Erick Omondi arrested after leading Mama Mboga demonstrations at the parliamentary building

Kenyan comedian Erick Omondi made headlines today as he was arrested following his leadership in a demonstration along Parliament Road, rallying against the Finance Bill 2024.

Omondi, who is also dubbed the “Comedy President in Africa,” spearheaded the protest alongside a group of women famously known as “mama mbogas.”

Dressed in the attire of a local council official and wielding a sound amplifier, Omondi marched with determination.

Accompanying the group were the mama mbogas, who carried sacks of sukuma wiki, which they symbolically emptied along Parliament Road during their protest.

Their message was further amplified by placards bearing the slogan “Wabunge Wasaliti”

However, the demonstration was swiftly met with intervention from law enforcement officers. Omondi was apprehended and escorted into the Parliament buildings amidst his vocal objections.

“Today I am entering the parliamentary buildings, mama mbogas, stand firm! We cannot allow them to prevail,” declared Omondi, resolute in his stance.
