Nine people tragically lost their lives this afternoon after the matatu they were traveling in collided with a trailer in the VIP area of Mai Mahiu, Naivasha Subcounty.
Numerous individuals sustained injuries and were promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
“Driver of a trailer from Nairobi heading towards Maai Mahiu general direction and on reaching at the location of the accident he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the rear of a Psv matatu of Muna sacco, hit another trailer make Mercedes/Benz which was parked off the road and lastly hit another motor vehicle Mercedes Benz,” read an incident report seen by Kondele News.
As a result of the accident,5 female adults, 3 male adults, and 1 female juvenile were fatally injured. 3 male adults and 5 female adults were seriously injured. All admitted at Auckland hospital.
Mr. Kirui confirmed the accident, noting that credible reports suggested the victims were likely en route to a family function.
The frequency of accidents has become alarming, with many lives lost, as indicated by statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Over the past four months alone, more than 1,400 people have lost their lives, and tens of others have been injured in separate accidents.
