Kevin Campbell “Super Kev”, former Arsenal striker dies at 54

Football is in mourning following the passing of Kevin Campbell, a revered striker who graced the pitches of Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Everton during a distinguished career spanning nearly 20 years. He was 54.

Born in Lambeth, Campbell began his professional journey with Arsenal, making his debut in May 1988. He played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s successes, including winning the First Division title in 1990-91, as well as the FA Cup and League Cup in 1992-93, and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1993-94, scoring a total of 60 goals in 224 appearances for the club before moving to Nottingham Forest in 1995.

Campbell’s career also included a memorable stint at Everton. The Toffees mourned the loss of a “true Goodison Park hero and icon of the English game.”

Initially joining Everton on loan in March 1999, Campbell made a significant impact by scoring nine crucial goals in eight matches, helping the club avoid relegation. His impressive performance earned him a permanent £3 million transfer that summer.

Campbell’s legacy at Everton includes being their fifth-highest Premier League goal scorer, highlighted by his memorable winning goal in the Anfield derby in 1999.

In addition to his club career, Campbell briefly played for Trabzonspor in Turkey and later contributed significantly to West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City. He also earned four caps and scored one goal for the England U21 team between 1990 and 1992.

After retiring in May 2007, Campbell transitioned into a successful media career, notably with Sky Sports, where his insights and expertise continued to inspire fans and young footballers alike.

Continuing the family legacy, Campbell’s son Tyrese followed in his father’s footsteps, playing for Stoke City from 2018 to 2024, further cementing the Campbell name in English football.

Kevin Campbell will be remembered for his on-field achievements and lasting impact on the sport. Farewell RHINO
