Kenyans marvel at the Payslip of Members of Parliament

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has sparked surprise among Kenyans online by sharing his payslip, revealing that he takes home less than Sh5000 each month after deductions.

Salasya posted the payslip, highlighting the financial challenges faced by lawmakers which often compel them to seek additional income streams.

“You now understand why MPs will accept Sh2 million instantly and vote a certain way in parliament. It’s tough out here,” Salasya wrote.

From a gross income of Sh1,164,527, Salasya’s payslip shows deductions leaving him with only Sh2364, a sum widely perceived as inadequate to sustain his needs.

The revelation triggered mixed reactions among Kenyans online, with some sympathizing with the financial pressures faced by lawmakers.
