IG, Japhet Koome has bowed to pressure and resigned, Douglas Kanja takes over

Douglas Kanja, the Deputy-Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, will step in as the Acting Inspector General following the resignation of Eng. Japheth N. Koome, MGH. President William Ruto, PhD, CGH, accepted Koome’s resignation on July 12, 2024.

President Ruto has appointed Eliud Langat as the Acting Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service and James Kamau as the Acting Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service.

Koome was nominated by President Ruto for the position of Inspector General in September 2022 and received clearance from both the National Assembly and the Senate.

He took over from Hillary Mutyambai, who had proceeded on terminal leave. Before his appointment as IG, Koome served as Nairobi County Police Commander and Commandant of the National Police Service College in Kiganjo.
