A dramatic event unfolded in Simenya, Ugunja sub-county after a lorry collided with a trailer, prompting the locals to loot assorted goods that was in the lorry.
The trailer, driven by Daniel Otieno, was on its way to Kisumu, while the lorry, operated by Charles Otieno, was headed towards Busia.
According to the police report, the accident occurred when the lorry, on its way to Busia, hit a pothole.
The impact caused Charles Otieno to lose control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision with the oncoming trailer.
In the aftermath of the crash, members of the public swarmed the scene, seizing the opportunity to loot assorted goods spilled from the vehicles.
The commotion and scramble for items added to the already tense atmosphere, turning the accident scene into a chaotic spectacle.
“It happened that when the said FH lorry reached at the location of the accident it hit pothole and loss control and collided with oncoming said trailer,” read the report from Simenya Police post.
The report further stated, “Lorry driven by Charles Otieno who was heading towards Busia general direction and carrying assorted goods which was stolen by members of public after the accident.”
“As a result of collusion the driver of the lorry sustained fracture on right leg and bruises on fore-face and his co-driver Fredrick Omondi sustained cut right eye , while his passenger Irene Awino sustained cut on right eye and bruises on both legs,”
“The victims was\\ere rushed to Rangala mission hospital .No person was injured on the trailer . The said lorry was extensively damaged on the front and body.”
